Factory style Shifter for Turbo-Hydramatics

The early Impala automatic console shifter mounted to the side of the Powerglide transmission. The Powerglide tail housing was specially cast to accommodate the shifter. As a result, reusing this shifter under the factory console is a big problem. Even if you can devise and construct the necessary brackets to mount the shifter, it will probably end up not in the right spot as the newer transmissions are wider and larger.

The problems are: 1) No place to mount the factory shifter, 2) Console is very low to the floor and most floor mounted shifters do not fit under it. 3) It remains functionally a 2-speed shifter.

Our solution at Shiftworks is our new shifter that mounts to the floor of the car. It uses a rod linkage like the factory shifter and can be mounted flush with the floor for clearance under the console. Our recommended version comes complete with all mounting hardware, rod linkage components, neutral safety/back-up light switch, and a white smoothie shift knob. Our shifter is designed to function like and look like a factory shifter. It works with all TH GM transmissions. I. It has a ½ inch diameter stainless steel handle and is made in Rochester, New York.

Powerglide Shifter Conversion Kit

This kits allows use of your 1964 factory-installed console shifter with a newer 3-speed (TH350 or TH400) or 4-speed overdrive (TH700-R4, TH200-4R, or 4L60) transmission. This kit eliminates the rod linkage and replaces it with a GM cable #3956765 (sold separately). The conversion includes a new laser cut and hardened detent for proper stops and gear selection, a new matching transmission shifter lever, all necessary hardware, and instructions.

Powerglide Shifter Conversion Kit

The factory “Horseshoe” style shifters use a universal detent and the same cable for both 2-speed and 3-speed automatic transmissions. Use this cable installation kit to upgrade your Powerglide transmission to a TH350 or TH400 or to install a factory console shifter in a car originally equipped with a column shift.

4 Speed Overdrive Kit

Impala Shifter This kit will convert 1968-72 factory “Horseshoe” style shifters for proper operation with the 4-speed overdrive TH700-R4, TH200-4R or 4L60 transmission. The shifter will travel the same distance in the console as the original. The conversion includes a new laser cut detent with an overdrive stop. All hardware and brackets needed for use of the original cable are included.
